Carbon film is what a lot of shops install as their standard tint. Carbon particles in the film give it a deep, matte black look instead of the shiny or slightly purple look of cheap dyed film. It blocks 99% of UV and has no metal layer, so it won’t interfere with your phone or GPS.
Who carbon is for
- You mainly want the look and privacy of tinted glass
- You want UV protection for your skin and interior
- You’re tinting a second car, a work truck or a project car and want to keep the cost down
- It’s your first install and you’d rather practice on less expensive film
If heat is your main complaint, especially in the South or Southwest, look at ceramic instead.

Carbon tint questions
Purple fading comes from cheap dyed films breaking down in the sun. Carbon film gets its color from carbon, which is stable, so it holds its black color.
Some. It reduces glare and blocks part of the sun’s heat, but ceramic blocks much more infrared. If heat is the priority, go ceramic.
The builder uses one film per order. If you want different films, place two orders. Shipping is free on both.
